There are two things to consider with your home lawn this time of year; yellow nutsedge and white grub control.
This is the time of year to address grub control. The normal deadline for applying a chemical called Imidicloprid to turf in our area is July 4th. If you have had a history of white grubs in your lawn, you might consider making this application in the next week. Be sure to follow the label directions in making this and all applications. While the damage from white grubs will not become apparent until August or later, controlling them ahead of time is much less costly and more effective than making a rescue treatment.
A weed that becomes visible in your lawn in mid summer is yellow nutsedge. A product that came on the market a few years ago, and has worked well for me, is Vexis herbicide. This is a granular herbicide that can be spot applied to the areas with the weed. The product must be watered in and is absorbed through the roots. It is a slow acting product, but from what I have seen, it is effective.
The golf course is 30 days into the 90 day war for survival 2025. The course is currently in excellent condition, periodic rainfall and cooler nights are so important for the grass to survive, hopefully we will see more of these conditions soon. The last week has been a difficult one, but we are in a good position going into the last 60 days of summer.
